That’s dumb. Using a pick gives another sound to a bass and is very useful when playing some music genres like punk. Is like saying that if you don’t know how to do slapping you don’t know how to play a bass or that if you don’t know how to use a bottleneck you can’t play guitar. They all are only different ways to use a bass, in my opinion you should experience with them all.
